I searched ECC wills and then looked at near every Jane who was transported to America listed in Cavaliers and Pioneers. I found one that is very interesting. Jane BOLT travelled with Henry COPELAND & Daniel PIERCE, Fra. Miller, Richd Preston, John Mottron, John Mathew, John Patterson, John Base, John Sparke, Esebius Williams. Transported by Lt. Col. Robert Abrall (he was granted land in Kent Co July 10, 1658). ref: Cavaliers and Pioneers. Jane married John Poole circa 1661 so she would be close to the right age to travel alone in 1658. Jane's daughter in law was Ann Copeland whose uncle was HENRY COPELAND. One of Henry Copeland's nieces married Michael PIERCE. So maybe we could both try to see what we can come up with on the surname BOLT in Elizabeth City. DONNA

Notes

Note H54William lived to around 50 years, so there is a good chance that he married and had children. I have no documentation on this William except for that provide in the note from Donna Cuzze, below.
WILLIAM POOLE: note
In 1688 his mother Jane Poole AVERY gave her late husband's estate to sons Thomas, John & William Poole. But William was deceased before a court case in 1715. No other records found for William. He would have been of age to receive his father's estate in 1688 and may have had children before his demise.
Note N53additional documentation is need
in 1688 his mother Jane Poole AVERY gave her late husband's estate to sons Thomas, John & William Poole. But William was deceased before a court case recorded in 1715. No other records found for William. He would have been of age to receive his father's estate in 1688 and may have had children before his demise.
some have suggested he may have migrated to Johnston Co NC , however, I have nothing to doucment this. He lived long enough to have had land, married, and had children -- the lack of doucmentation may support the "thesis" that he migrated.
Here is a write up from Bill Avery - saying that Wm Poole's half brothers Thomas, Henry and Alexander moved to NC to their father and then back to ECC
FOLLOWING IS MY REASONING FOR CONNECTING THE SONS THOMAS, HENRY, & ALEXANDER
WHO EVENTUALLY MOVED TO NC TO THIER FATHER HENRY AVERA, JR., and back to Elizabeth
City County, VA:
1) These three boys went to NC in the 1740s. (wtp note, 1/2 brother William was dead before 1715- so if he went to NC, he went earleir than Thomas, Henry, and Alexander)
2) From research done previously by Len Avera, Franklin Ingram, Myself, and Jim Marshall, and Margaret Lee,
we had previously set the approximate birthdates of Henry Avera (Len's line) as 1700-1720, Thomas Avera, Sr
(My line) as 1697-1720, Alexander Avera (1690-1710).
3) These birthdates would all fit into the timeframe to make Henry Avera, Jr. their father
4) We know from Henry's brother Charles will who Charles' children were, based on Charles' will. His kids were
NOT Henry, Thomas, and/or Alexander, so that would disallow Charles as being their father
5) Henry Avera's Sr's two children from his first marriage--Thomas and Alexander--were born in the mid 1600s.
Although certainly possible, they were probably too old to have fathered three more children when they were in
their 50s.
6) Thomas Avera, the son of Henry and his first wife (no. 5 above) and Thomas' wife Rebecca had sons who
were Thomas and Alexander who were purchasing property in Beufort County, NC in 1709. The deed for their
property purchase was witnessed by Samuel Boutwell. Thomas and Rebecca's neighbor in Elizabeth City County
was William Boutwell. I believe that the boys Samuel, Thomas, and Alexander all grew up together and moved to
Beufort County, NC together.
7) There was a lot of interconection in Johnston County, NC between Thomas and Alexander Avera, and the
Poole family who was/were the grandson of Thomas and Alexander's mother, Jane Poole Avera, and their
descendants. (this has been proven)
8) There was a lot of interconnection in Elizabeth City County, NC between Thomas and Alexander Avera and
the Poole family there who were their step brothers, and their descendants, as well as John Whitfield, the
grandson of Jane Poole Avera. One of their step brother's children, William Poole, moved to Johnston County,
NC around the same time as the Avera boys did. That would be Jane Poole Avera's grandson. This William
Poole married Sarah Scott, the sister of Benjamin Scott. See #9 below.
9) When Thomas Avera, Sr died in 1761, Benjamin Scott became guardian of two of his minor children, Arthur
and Isaac, and subsequently moved to GA with them. Benjamin Scott's sister Sarah was married to the grandson
of Jane Poole Avera, one William Poole. (Henry Avera's second wife Jane who was previously married to John
Poole) It is possible that Benjamin and Sarah Scott were also from Elizabeth City County, but I haven't been able
to prove this yet. This alone connects our Thomas Avera, Sr back to Elizabeth City County, VA.
10) The given names of the descendants of Henry Avera, Sr. in Elizabeth City County matched the names that
showed up in Johnston County, NC, including Charles, Henry, Thomas, Alexander, William, etc.
11) Henry Avera, Sr (Bertie County, NC) son Charles married Ann House. There was interconnection bet
