Moses Porter, 6th son of John Porter of England and Miss Durier, was born in Carrollton, MD in 1735. He died in 1794. He settled near Wellersburg, PA just after he and his brother John helped survey the Mason-Dixon line in or about 1763. He may have moved over the state line into Maryland with his brother John at a later date. Moses and John both served in the Revolutionary War. They were in Captain Paxton's Bedford Company Militia (PA Archives, 5th Series, Volume V, p. 116). Wellersburg is located in Bedford County, PA Moses married Margaret White. In his will, reported by James Albert Smith, which is recorded in Book A, page 13, July 10, 1794, his "wife Margaret and children, whose names are listed below" as inheriting. His real estate included lots 3395 and 3396 plus 37 1/2 acres of land. The will was witnessed by William Shaw, Aaron McKenzie and Michael Porter. (Michael Porter may also been a brother to Moses and John). It is not known where this family lived, but the children of John and Bethel Porter are mentioned through marriages into the line of John Porter's descendants. Children of Moses and Margaret Porter were listed as follows: Aaron, John, William, Joshua, Bethel, Elinor, Thomas, Moses and Sarah.
