Biography
Rachel, daughter of Dr. Robert Pottinger and Anne Evans, was born about 1730. She married first about 1751 to William Bowie, Jr. who died ca. 1753. They had one son William Bowie 3rd (b. 1753; d. 13 Sep 1807).
She then married Colonel Zadock Magruder; children (surname MAGRUDER): Sarah (b. 23 Sep 1755), John (b. 23 Apr 1757; d. 2 Sep 1773), Anne (b. 29 Jul 1758; d. 12 Jan 1774), Susannah (b. 10 Jan 1760; d. 14 Feb 1789), Eleanor (b. 20 Apr 1762), Elizabeth (b. 10 Feb 1764; d. aft 1822), Zadok (b. 10 May 1765; d. 2 Dec 1809), Rachel (b. 25 Mar 1767; d. aft 1822), Robert Pottinger (b. 23 Mar 1769; d. bef 10 Aug 1822), Cassandra (b. 24 Nov 1771; d. 16 Mar 1797), and Anne Pottinger (b. 2 Jul 1779).
In Jun 1753, Rachel was the administratrix of the estate of William Bowie, Jr. The will of Ann Pottinger, dated 15 May 1767, mentioned her daughter Rachel Magruder wife of Zadock Magruder.
