Biography

Sidney was born about 1810. He is the son of Jacob Pratt and Mary Baldwin.

Sidney is the only child of Jacob Pratt that I have been able to locate in the census records.

The 1850 Federal Census for Otsego County has, an apparently single, Sidney Pratt who is a carpenter, just like his father, living with two females in his household.[1]

In the 1855 New York State Census, Sidney is living in a household by himself.[2] He is listed as 41 years old and born in Otesgo County.

1860 finds Sidney, now apparently married to Lucy, living in the town of Otego, New York.[3] His age is now listed as 50.

You also can find Sidney in the 1860 Federal Agriculture enumeration. The picture paints an image of someone in the lower half of the economic ladder.

The 1865 State Census of New York finds Sidney married to Suchy (or maybe Lucy - it is hard to read). He also has his father Jacob living in the household too.[4] The census record also shows that Sidney has only been married once, his wife has been married twice and has three children. It also shows that Jacob was only married once and is now a widower. You have got to love the New York State census of 1865!

Research Notes

I've searched the Washington County, New York deed indexes and there are only two deeds listed for Jacob Pratt as a grantor and none as a grantee (checked through 1874).
