The above-mentioned information is the result of a baby boy Charl born out of wedlock. Anna Pretoriús was orphaned at the age of fourteen years and placed with the Marais family to further her education. When she was nineteen years old and her guardian's son Charles Marais was sixteen years old, Anna fell pregnant and had a son, Charles in 1738. [20]

↑ Although the rules of the Cape of Good Hope and the Church suggest the couple were married, this marriage did not occur. What became of Anna and her infant son after the hearing and how she survived financially is not known. Presumably, the grandfather Charles Marais provided their needs. Anna Pretoriús married Zaccharias de Beer on May 12, 1743, about five years after the birth of Charl. Added by Ronel Olivier April 29, 2016
DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Anna by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Anna:
The following now makes sense to me - With Anna's baptism Oct 1718, Maria Rousseau was the witness. Maria at the time was recent widow to Anna's father's brother, Loduwijck http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pretorius-5111, deceased Apr 1718.
Maria Rousseau then marries 1721 with Charles Marais and 1722 they have Charles Marais jnr http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Marais-39 .
After 1732 the orphaned Anna Pretorius, then 14-15, is placed with her godmother Maria Rousseau and her husband Charles Marais. Anna and Charles Marais jnr further grew up in the same house, where the "deugdelose conversatie" occurred a few years later.
Hi Ronel, I'm only seeing this now. You can first try and (propose) to merge. If you get a weird message saying that you can't edit the parents, then you know that the parents need to be merged first. You could then [also if neccesary] dis-connect the parents (keeping written notes of their WikiTree ID-numbers either here) and try the merge like that. But be sure that the parents are also the same .... if there are conflicting parent profiles something must be wrong ...
Regarding the merge: I am apprehensive to disconnect Pretoriús-5667 from Prætorius-25 and Vosloo-27. If I am not here tomorrow she will stay disconnected: Would it solve the problem if both Pretorius-4697 and Pretoriús-5667 are listed as children of Prætorius-25 (father)and Vosloo-27.(mother) ?
The father of Preotrius-6258 is conected to the mother Anna Pretorius-4697 The father was Marais-39 Anna Pretorius and Charles Marais were both minors Anna Pretorius lived with the Marias family after the death of her parents I left some sloppy info in the bios of Preotrius-6258 . It will all come together after the merges are done .

No. This Charles is the son of Claude Marais and the sources of the inquisition on the matter in 1738 clearly say the father was Charl/es Marais, son of a Charles Marais. Thus http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Marais-39, son of http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Marais-33
I have checked and there is no record of another Charl/es Marais, in the circumstantial age bracket at the time, whose father was also Charles Marais.
http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Marais-180 should be merged with http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pretorius-6258 as both profiles are the same "onecht" son of Anna Pretorius and Charles Marais.
Your input is much appreciated I will do that. Will keep you informed R
