Thomas Price presented[1] the inventory of his father's estate in 1758 in Anson County, NC with his mother, Eleanor. He can be traced in records in Anson, Mecklenburg and Lincoln Counties, NC due to land patents received by his father.
Thomas remained in the same area in the Catawba River region from the 1750s until he died in 1799, but the counties changed around him, so records for him can be found in Anson, Mecklenburg, Tryon and Lincoln Counties. He was buried in the Bethell Cemetery in York County, South Carolina.
He was well educated and a substantial library, including books in Latin and Greek, was listed in the inventory of his estate in Lincoln County. Several secondary sources claim he was a minister, but no primary record evidence has been found to support this claim. Several slaves are included in his estate inventory.
Thomas owned several hundred acres of land at the time of his death. He is sometimes confused with another Thomas Price who was a captain in the Revolutionary War and was killed in action in 1781. This other Thomas Price may have been a cousin. It is uncertain if the Thomas Price of this sketch served during the Revolutionary War or rendered patriotic service.
