I entered this world on a hot July evening in 1952. ( I don't remember the heat, mom told me and I trust her completely!) dad was a farmer who loved to work with wood. I would later come to understand the true meaning of craftsman, just growing up in dad's woodworking shop, on that 40 acre farm between Marmaduke and Rector AR. Mom was a multi faceted jewel. She was close to the Proverbs 31 model of a woman. She worked on the farm, helping gather corn, chopping cotton, picking cotton, raising a garden, tastefully preparing the fruit of her labors, and canning the abundance for us to enjoy when the cold winds blew. We still talk about our farm life (mom just turned 93). We didn't have lots of things or the fancy clothes, but I never remember going to bed hungry. We all worked together for the family. Mom did all that, and also kept a tidy house. She had time to keep 3 kids in line. Phyllis was 6 years older than I, and Mark came along when I was 12. When Phyllis was 3, we had a sister that didn't stay around too long. She was Judy Gail. She also had time to make dad happy. There was a lot of laughter in our home. When we could we would go fishing. Maybe to a stocked pond in the area, or sometimes to a backout on the Black river, the StFrancis, or maybe to Coopers creek or the strawberry river close to Sharp county, AR. More later...
