James Nelson Price, a first generation American and the youngest child of Lorenzo Verne Price and Anna Buckley, was born in Salt Lake City Utah on January 26, 1891. [1][2]
He had 10 siblings, but only 8 had survived to the 1900 census.
His father supported the family as a carpenter, passing his skills down to James. [3][4]
Marriage and Family
On February 6, 1912, at the age of 21, he married 17-year-old Winnie Belle Wasson in Salt Lake, City, Salt Lake, Utah. Afterward, the couple began their journey which would move them to several locations throughout Utah Idaho, and California. [5]
In 1917, just one year after Cleon's birth, the budding family lived in Magna, Utah just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. They had a house on 75 Center St. James supported the family using his carpentry skills. He registered for the WWI draft. His physical description states his tall and stout with gray eyes and brown hair. [6]
By 1920, The family owned their own house on 1900 Park Street in Salt Lake City, Utah. James continued working as a carpenter. [7]
In 1923, James and Winnie lived in Riverside, California where they gave birth to their third child, Elaine. The growing family lived on 151 Edgewood Place. James worked as a building contractor. [8]
By 1926, the family still lived in Riverside, California, but had moved to 355 Brockton Ave. James still worked as a building contractor. [9]And their youngest son, Robert is about 2 years old (born 31 Aug 1924).
1927 finds the family still living in Riverside, but they had moved to yet another home on 146 Milton.[10]
By 1930, the family again had moved. Now residing in West Riverside, CA on 2286 Limante St, James appears to also have changed occupation and owns his own ranch. (1930 Census) [11]
According to the 1940 census, the family moved to San Bernadino on Serrano Road by or before 1935. Robert is the only child still living at home and is 15 years old. James, once again lists his occupation as a carpenter and reports that he completed a 6th-grade education. [12]
When James registers for the WWII Draft in 1942, he is living on 825 D St. in San Bernadino, California. He still reports owning his own business. [13]
19 Aug 1954, James died in San Bernadino, California[15][16]
Research Notes
His WWI draft card lists his birthday as Jan 29, 1899. [17] But his WWII draft card lists it as Jan 26, 1891.[18]
