DEATH OF JOHN PRYOR.
Floyd, May 11 -- John Pryor died at his home in Rockland township, on the 17th of April 1894, of heart disease. He was well known and highly respected throughout the entire neighborhood where he lived. He was the oldest son of William Pryer, of Cranberry. He was born in 1830. and when 21 years old, he went to Forest county, where he engaged in the lumber business. He was a pilot on the creek and sawyer on what was known as the Gordon mills, on Tionesta creek. In 1863 he removed with his family to Venango county, where he resided at the time of his death. The deceased leaves a wife and five children. The interment was in the Rockland cemetery.
JOHN PRYER
In the death of John Pryer, Venango county loses one of its best known citizens. He was born Oct. 30, 1830 in Cranberry Twp., Venango county, and died April 17, 1894., being at the time of his death over 63 years of age. On the day of April 17th he failed to appear at the usual call of the dinner hour and his wife went to search for him, finding him in the barn, apparently sleeping, with his head resting on one arm. It proved to be his long, last sleep, and the voice of his faithful wife could not awaken him. He had been troubled some with heart disease for several years, and had fallen dead while caring for his horses. Deceased was a man, upright and honest in all his transactions, a believer in all that was good and right, sober and industrious in habit, and a kind husband and father. At the age of 21 years he went to Forest county and engaged in the lumber business until the fall of 1863, when he purchased the farm on which he has resided, in Rockland twp., ever since with the exception of drilling some on Oil Creek during the first excitement there. On May 22, 1856, he was united in marriage to Gertrude J. Purdy who, with five grown up children, two sons, Wallace and Norman L., and three daughters, Mrs. Chas. E. Ferringer, Mrs. Chas. E. Heron, and Mrs. C. R. French survive him. His remains were interred in the M. E. cemetery, Rockland, where they were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved wife and family.
