Lawson Race was the son of Moses Race and Mary Tomlin. He was born in Virginia about 1804. Lawson married Phoebe Hawkins, daughter of Thomas Hawkins and Polly McMillian. Lawson and Phoebe raised their children in Pendleton County, Kentucky.
