Early Years

Elizabeth Gertrude Ralph was born about 1896. She was baptised on 16 December 1896 at Millom, Cumberland, England.[1] Her birth was registered at the Bootle Registration District between Oct-Dec 1896.[2] She was the daughter of Edwin Ralph and Elizabeth Ann Jones.

Elizabeth was the oldest of at least six children born to Edwin and Elizabeth:

  • Elizabeth Gertrude Ralph, born 1896, Millom Cumberland,
  • William Edward Ralph, born 1905, Beaconsfield, Cape Province.[3]
  • Thelma Ralph, born 1910, Benoni, Transvaal.[4]

  • Florence Ralph, (twin) born 1918, Malvern, Johannesburg.[6]
  • Ann Ralph, (twin) born 1918, Malvern, Johannesburg.[7]
  • Ada Ralph, born 1919, Johannesburg.[8] (Could this be the same person as Ann Ralph, b.1918?)

Elizabeth had emigrated from England to South Africa with her parents, Edwin and Elizabeth, before 1905 as her brother William was born at Beaconsfield, Kimberley, Cape Province, South Africa.

Marriage & Family

Elizabeth Gertrude Ralph married Cecil Victor Cameron Martin at Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa, on 6 March 1917.[9]
