What is the source for the marriage at Boston 6 March 1659, or is there no source for this at all?

To my knowledge, there are births recorded 1669, 1671 and 1673, so I would understand a marriage date of before 1669.

See 1669 - Elizabeth Randall (parents Richard Randall/Elizabeth) 06 Nov 1669 See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DCTM-R2ZM

1671 - Judith Randall (parents Richard Randall/Elizabeth) 19 Jul 1671 See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DCTQ-Z5ZM

1673 - Ann Randall (parents Richard Randall/Elizabeth) 18 Feb 1673 See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DCT3-Y1T2

Randall-923 and Randall-500 do not represent the same person because: Randall-500 seems likely to combine information about several men named Richard Randall.

Sourcing would certainly help us sort this out.

This Richard Randall is being confused with his father also named Richard Randall. See: http://www.genealogy.com/ftm/r/o/j/Heather-W-Rojo/GENE25-0039.html. (( I am not allowed to make changes pre-1700 )) The spouse and children are correct but his birth date, death date, and father belong to his grandfather. (( his father’s father ))

Hi Judith,

In 2017, you commented on the profile of Richard Randall, Randall-500.

Perhaps have good news and bad news.

First, Randall-500 (Richard Randall b. c1633 England) and Randall-2592 (Priscilla) are duplicates, for the most part, inferior duplicates of

Richard Randall (Randall-923), and Priscilla (Randall) Presbury (Randall-426)

Oddly enough, however, the profile I worked on about Priscilla’s sister, Sarah (Randall-501), is now attached to the inferior Richard Randall-500. (I do not know what has become of the original profile created for her brother, Richard, b. 1659, but another was created as Randall-8072. Like Sarah, the latter is also attached as son of inferior Richard, Randall-500.

Secondly, I have found no association between the Richard Randall of Cape Porpus/Saco and Richard Randall of Boston, m. Elizabeth, dau. of Matthew Ines/Irons.

I’ll send a separate note explaining why these seem like two different Richard Randall families with no association shown.

Hi again Judith,

There are several historical records that seem overlooked (or disregarded) by those who desire to claim that Richard Randall of Cape Porpus is the same man by that name of Boston, known to have married Elizabeth Ines/Irons.

Discussion follows. Please let me know how you process this logic, and whether you have additional information to be considered.

1. A series of vitals found in the town records of Boston identify children born to "Richard Randall" and Wife "Elizabeth." These children are:

1669 - Elizabeth Randall (parents Richard Randall/Elizabeth) 06 Nov 1669 See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DCTM-R2ZM

1671 - Judith Randall (parents Richard Randall/Elizabeth) 19 Jul 1671 See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DCTQ-Z5ZM

1673 - Ann Randall (parents Richard Randall/Elizabeth) 18 Feb 1673 See https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:DCT3-Y1T2

Only some descendant researchers attribute the births of these children as descendants of Matthew Ines/Irons by his daughter, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Anderson made no mention of these births/children in his Great Migration article about Michael Ines. Anderson says only that daughter Elizabeth b. 15 April 1641 [a reconciled date], bp. 18 April 1641, married to Richard Randall "by 28 September 1676," citing Suffolk Deeds 9:426.

Despite no mention in Anderson, it seems reasonable to attribute those children as descendants of Matthew Ines/Irons and continue the research about them.

2. The births of our Richard Randall children of Cape Porpus/Saco span 1659 to say 1666 (generally, from Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire [GDMNH])--a period just earlier than the recorded Boston births noted above. Further, no mother's name is attributed to the children of Cape Porpus. These children are:

1659 - Richard (16 Mar 1659)

1661 - Sarah (24 Mar 1661)

1661-1666 - Priscilla [1]

Given the births reported in GDMNH, a key identifying question is, "Following the births of the Cape Porpus children (say 1666), did Richard Randall of that place relocate to Boston so that a series of his children were there recorded?"

The 1727 testimony of then "Priscilla Presberry" of Beverly seems to answer "no" to that question. Priscilla testifies that she had lived at "Capeporpus" with her father from her birth until she was eighteen years old. [See Maine Genealogical Society, _York Deeds_ Book 12, Part 2 (Bethel Maine: E. C. Bowler, 1904), folio 224; digital images, _Internet Archive_ (accessed 12 Feb 2013); "Priscilla Presburys test" (testimony of Priscilla Presberry of Beverly ad perpetuam Rei Memoriam in Salem, 6 Oct 1727).] See http://archive.org/stream/yorkdeeds12main#page/n117/mode/2up

Separate from Priscilla's 1727 testimony, GDMNH reports about various events/dealings by our Richard Randall at Cape Porpus/Saco. These span the years 1658 to 1688/89--well through and past the time the "Randall" children are reportedly born at Boston.

3. Finally, also in 1727 (25 Jan 1726/27), we have information from the property transfer by sisters Sarah (Randall) West and Priscilla (Randall) Presbury. The sisters claim their father's Cape Porpus land and convey same to two of Priscilla's sons--"Edward Presbery" and "Stephen Presbery" both of "Newbury in the County of Essex ...,", shipwrights. The sisters claim they are the "Children & only Heirs of Mr. Richard Rundal late of Cape Porpus Mariner …." [See Maine Genealogical Society, _York Deeds_ Book 12, Part 1 (Bethel Maine: E. C. Bowler, 1903), folio 177; digital images, _Internet Archive_ (accessed 12 June 2013); Sarah West & Priscilla Presbury to Edward & Stepn Presbury.] See https://archive.org/details/yorkdeeds121main/page/n549/mode/2up?view=theater

On the basis of the sisters' testimony, it is presumed that their brother, Richard Randall b. 1659, has by then deceased, leaving no heirs. Applying that same line of reasoning, Randall/Irons researchers claiming to be related to the man at Cape Porpus have to assume, without evidence I have seen, that the three daughters recorded at Boston--all younger than Sarah and Priscilla--had died by 1727 and, most importantly, that none of them had left heirs. While not impossible, without historical evidence such presumption seems more improbable than not.

As always, the above discussion doesn't preclude discovery of further evidence that might color the reasoning. While I have not made much effort to research about Boston for land, court or church records concerning the Randall family/children, I would hope someone has or will.

Would like to hear back from you. Do you find gaps in my logic? Your thoughts are welcome. Pardon typos. -- Gene

[1] In 1727 she declared she was about age 66; at the time of her death in 1752, she was said to have been 86.
