Biography

Carson Randolph was born in Appalachia, in Alabama.

Carson P. Randolph was the son of James Randolph and Abigail Alexander. He was born in 1828 in Alabama and is living with his own family in the 1850 U.S. Federal Census, in Giles County, Tennessee.

He married about 1849/1850 to Alcey/Adel/Adaline Turner although a marriage record hasn't been located. Her maiden name is from the Death Certificates of two of her children. [1] Their family is growing by 1860 when they have the following members:

He enlisted as a Private in Captain Willis Worley's Company of Tennessee Volunteers on Oct 8, 1861, and musted into service Oct 19, 1861, at Trousdale, Tennessee. This company is AKA as Co A, 32 Reg't Tennessee Infantry.

Carson P. Randolph was mortally wounded in the battle of Chickamauga and sent to the hospital on Sep 20, 1863. He died Dec 16, 1863, in General Hospital in Atlanta from his wounds. [3]

The 1870 census indicates Carson Randolph had another daughter, Cornelia born in 1863, although later she gives her year of birth as 1866. Cornelia is age 7, born in Tennessee in the household of A. M. Randolph, Giles County, Tennessee. [4]

Years later, in 1901, Mr. Arrowsmith of the Commercial Bank & Trust, Pulaski, Tennessee, wrote a letter to the Tennessee Civil War pension board on behalf of A. J. Randolph. Mr. Arrowsmith stated he know the Randolph family and he mentions the four brothers, including Carson Randolph who was mortally wounded at Chickamauga.[5]
