Biography

Anthony was born in 1798.^[1] He was the son of Edward Raymond and Lydia Coombs.

He married first Aletta Alexander in 1821.^[2] They had the following children:

1. Mary Raymond^[3][4]
2. Isabella Raymond^[5][6]
3. Edward Raymond^[7]

He married second Mary Whitehouse in 1831.^[8] They had the following children:

1. Aletta Raymond (died in infancy)^[9]
2. Aletta Raymond^[10]
3. John Raymond^[11]
4. Eunice Raymond^[12]

He passed away in 1879.^{[13] [14]}

Anthony Coombs RAYMOND, born at Harpswell, ME, 21 Jun 1798; died at Bath, ME, 13 Jun 1879; his marriage (1st) intentions were published at Brunswick, ME, on 14 Apr 1821 to Aletta C. ALEXANDER, both of Brunswick,^[15] and they were married on 3 May 1821.^[16] Aletta was born on 31 Mar 1802 and died 21 Sep 1830.^[17] Anthony's marriage (2nd) intentions were published at Brunswick on 14 Feb 1831 to Mary WHITEHOUSE,^[18] and they were married on 8 Mar 1831. Mary was born at Topsham, ME, on 13 May 1803, daughter of Andrew Whitehouse and Betsy Haley, and she died at Bath, ME, 1 Nov 1889.^[19] Anthony and both of his wives were buried in the Growstown Cemetery, Brunswick, ME.

Anthony’s family moved to the Growstown part of Brunswick, ME, in 1799. In 1816 he was listed as an assistant in the account books of master builder Samuel Melcher III. Anthony was a successful contractor and builder who built hotels, dormitories at Bowdoin College, and 43 churches in ME. Member of the Mason Street Universalist Church, Brunswick, ME. He moved to Bath in 1840.
