In 1850, he was living in the household of his uncle William Nathan Read in Easton, Washington, New York.[1]
He moved to La Salle county, Illinois where his brother Edwin was farming. In 1860, he was a farm laborer in the household of Theodore Jenkins.[2]
During the civil war, he enlisted with the 53rd infantry from LaSalle county.
Franklin passed away in 1863, dying from losing an arm and leg at Jackson, Mississippi, and dying in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, according to a short biography of brother Edwin T. Read. [3][4]
