Biography
The son of Jesse Recor and Minerva (Penfield) Recor, George Recor was born in Berlin Township in 1841.[citation needed] His father passed away the next year. His entire family then moved west to Minnesota, settling in Rice County. In 1857, George and his mother lived in Wells Township, Minnesota, residing with his sister, Augusta Dunham, and her family. The household also included his aunt, Nancy Penfield, age 74.[1] George Recor enlisted during the Civil War, enlisting as a Private in Company D of the Minnesota 11th Infantry.[2]
After the war, In 1865, George returned to Wells Township, residing there with his mother, and his aunt .[3] having taken in a boarder, David Vosburgh (who later married George's sister, Anna.) George Recor married Catherine Davis (1849-1900), about whom nothing is known. Their children included:
Charles Edward Recor (1869-1952)
Merton E. Recor (1876-1958)
They made their home in Green Lake, Minnesota.[4] In 1895, they lived in the village of Wilmar.[5] His wife passed away in June of 1900; that year, George lived with his son, Merton, in Willmar.[6] In 1905, he lived in Cass Township,[7]
George moved to Canada, residing in Brunetta, in Alberta. In 1907, he began receiving his Civil War pension there.[8] By 1920, he had returned to Minnesota, residing in Waterville, in Le Sueur County.[9] In 1930, George again lived with Merton and his family, who then lived in Rose Hill, Washington.[10]
George Recor passed away in Kirkland, Washington at the age of 91[11] and is buried at Fairview Cemetery in Wilmar, Minnesota.[12]
