James Rector was born on 22 August 1754 to Jacob Rector and Mary Ann Hitt in Faquier, Virginia. He married Leannah Warren. James died circa 1839 at Lincoln, Missouri.[1][2]
James and Leannah (Warren) Rector had the following children:

Germanna Record No. 4 John Jacob Rector - 1714 Germanna Colonist, pages 62-64[4] It provides a pretty good list of sources of information for James Rector, and the list of children identified(Elizabeth, Bennett, Warren, Leannah, Nancy). There is no indication that he had Jacob, Mary, Molly
James was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was in the Battle of Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered in 1781. [5]

Declaration of James Rector in order to allow the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th, 1832 -
State of Missouri, County of Lincoln
On this 19th day of May 1834, personally appeared in open court before the circuit court of Lincoln County now setting being in court of ___, James Rector, a resident of Lincoln County and state aforesaid, aged seventy-nine years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth now ___make the following declaration for consideration to allow the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th,1832.
That he enlisted in the Army of the United States on the tenth of August A.D. 1781 for the period of six months, in the following named officers(Viz)Col Delany and Corporal Dudley, that he left six company of Corporal Dudley on the 25th Day of November A.D. 1781, the he was actively engaged in serving his Country in this in the presence of ___ to viz: That he resided when he entered the service in Fauquier County and the sate of Virginia: that he was engaged in the very memorable __ of York with the siege of the fort, and was present when Lord Cornwallis surrendered his sword and army to General Washington which last took place on the 19th of October A.D. 1781 that the place when the ___ attached to this company to which ...

I have a transcript of the of the record of my birth from my father's Bible in a book now in my possession.

When called into service I was living in Fauquier County, Virginia. Since that time I have lived in North Carolina, Kentucky, and I now live in Lincoln County, Missouri.
4. How were you called to service?
I was drafted
James moved from Virginia to Rowan County, North Carolina. He then moved to Wayne County, Kentucky with his brother Jesse's son, Samuel. From there, James moved his family to Lincoln County, Missouri.
