Biography

Jean Baptiste Renaud dit Canard was born 23 November 1750, son of Charles François Renaud and Catherine Cusson; and was baptized in St. Charles-de-Lachenaie, L’Assomption parish, the same day—his sponsors were Joseph Beauchamp and Marie-Agnès Gausselin.^[1] He died at Mascouche, L'Assomption parish, 22 March 1824, aged 64, an ancien cultivateur, and was buried in the cemetery of St. Henri-de-Mascouche, 24 March 1824, in the presence of Jean Guindon and Pierre Renaud (his son).^[2]

He married, first, at St. Henri-de-Mascouche, L’Assomption parish, 20 June 1774, Marie Françoise Mulouin, daughter of Pierre Mulouin and Marie Marguerite Daunais. The witnesses were Michel Renaud et Dofallard, Jean-Baptiste Mulouin (uncle of bride), “and spouse.”^[3]

Marie Françoise Mulouin was born at Mascouche, 10 June 1754, daughter of Pierre Mulouin and Marie Marie Marguerite Daunais, and was baptized at St. Henri-de-Mascouche, 11 June 1754—her sponsors were Jean Baptiste Berloin pere and Marie Louise Depaty.^[4] She died la surveille, aged 26 [sic], and was buried at Mascouche, 25 July 1785, in the presence of Simon Dupras, Jean Dupras, Jean Guilbeau, and others.^[5]

Jean Baptiste Renaud married, second, at Mascouche, 6 October 1788, Marie Louise Therrien, mineur daughter of Jean Therrien and Marie Marguerite Allard. The witnesses were François Renaud, Joseph Renaud’s wife, Michel Rochant, Janot Allard, Michel Rochant, François Regis, and Michel Mathieu.^[6]

Marie Louise Terrain was born at Mascouche, 30 November 1760, daughter of Jean Therrien and Marie Marguerite Allard; and was baptized the same day at St. Henri-de-Mascouche—her sponsors were [no first name] Forget dit Depaty, Joseph [no surname], and Marie-Anne Bouteillet.^[7] She died at Mascouche 21 November 1809, aged 47 years, femme de J Baptiste Renaud, was buried at St. Henri-de-Mascouche, 23 November 1809, in the presence of Jean Guindon and Joseph Renaud.^[8]
