Charles was born in 1830. He is likely the son of David Ribble, although this is not proved and we cannot rule out completely the possibility that he was a son of John Ribble or his brother William. No record has been found which clearly states his parents names.[1] Most early trees show Charles as the son of Anthony and Nancy (Teeple) Ribble, but this is mistaken as their son was Charles R Ribble who died in Detroit in 1913.[2]
In 1851, Charles was staying in Bronte Village with William & Elizabeth Ribble, who were undoubtedly his grandparents. He was listed as a sailor.[3] Charles married Almira C. Coocher in Oakville on January 16, 1854, Rev. John Hunt officiating. Again, no record is given of his parents.[4]
In 1861, as a young man, Charles was an inmate at the Provincial Penitentiary in Frontenac County.[5] Afterwards he settled near Leamington, Ontario, where he became a farmer.[6] His wife died young, in 1873, leaving him to raise a large family on his own.
By 1901, he was living alone except for his youngest daughter Augusta, who had broken up with her husband and returned home.[7]
Charles died in January 1915[8] and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Leamington, Ontario.[9]
