Biography

David came to Canada with his parents before the War of 1812. On an 1824 land petition he reported that he was "a native of the United States from whence he removed with his parents into the Township of Trafalgar about thirteen years ago."[1] The fact that he was petitioning for land in 1824 suggests that he was twenty-one years old by that time, but probably not much older or he could have applied for land with his brothers Anthony and John in 1819. His petition was approved[2] and the 1828 Trafalgar Assessment lists David with a wife and one daughter under sixteen, living on Lot 18, Concession 2 SDS.[3] There is no certain record of his daughter's name, but the Charlotte Ribble who marries Joseph Burrows in 1840[4] was born in 1824 and does not seem to fit in the family of any other Trafalgar Ribble sibling.
