Biography

"Elizabeth Ann Richey was born in South Carolina. She was married on March 4, 1864 to her cousin John Robert Richey of Donalds, South Carolina, while he was at home on a furlough from the Confederate Army. He was son of John and Nancy Adaline Richey. Their fathers were brothers. John Robert Richey grew up in the old home of his grandfather James Richey, Junior, his father having inherited it by the terms of James Richey, Junior’s will. This family removed to Georgia several years after the war, about 1880, living in Banks County near Commerce, and later moved to Franklin County near Carnesville. Their children were William, Andrew, James, Minola, Cleo and Nettie who did not marry, and Myrt, Estelle and Caldwell, twins, who married and I think have children; Minnie married Mr. Sam Harber and lived at Carnesville, Ga., Mr. Harber died in 1943. Myrt Richey married lst. Sailors. One son. In. 2nd. __________Duncan. One daughter Myrt Duncan m. Hoyt Hooper — living in Kanapolis, N. C. Children; 6 sons, Frank, Thomas, Hoyt, Jr., Billy, Nolan and Phil. Two daughters, Frances and Margaret." "Their gravestones at Middle River Church near Carnesville read:

"John Robert Richey brought with him to Georgia his grand-father’s Bible containing the record of his grandfather, James Jr.’s family, and of his father John’s family, and also a certi­fied copy of his grandfather James Richey, Junior’s will. From them I secured the first records of my paternal forefathers."

"The certification on the will reads, “I do hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy from the original which is on record in this office.

Signed: Moses Taggart, Ordinary."[1]
