William 13 Dec 1836 West Sheffard, bap 6 March 1837 non conformist register - 17 Oct 1882 Benalla, m. Ellen Campion in 1861 in Victoria. A bridle was stolen from the premises of William Ride storekeeper residing in Benalla in 1866. [Ovens and Murray Advertiser, 6 Oct 1866] On 17 Oct 1882 William Ride, cordial manufacturer, and an old resident of Benalla, died suddenly. [The Age, 18 Oct 1882] Ride’s Cordial Factory was associated with Benalla’s early history, and was held in high esteem by residents. [Benalla Ensign, 5 Oct 1950] Ellen died 16 Sept 1922 and her probate went to daughter Martha Wilson and son Edwin Ride.
14 Sep 1849, the barque, Minerva set sail from London, England via Plymouth and arrived in Melbourne, Victoria on 16 Jan 1850. The newspapers of the day, listed Mr. and Mrs. Ryde and family on the passenger list for Melbourne[1].
