Matthew Riggans was born in Scotland.

Matthew was possibly born in about 1798 in Maybole, Ayrshire.^[1]

Matthew Riggans/Reggans married Agnes Arthur^[1] (From the Death registrations of both his daughterAgnes (Reggans) Nimmo and his wife Agnes (Arthur) Riggans

In 1851 Matthew RIGANS (age 53 yrs) was working as a Blacksmith. He was living with his wife and children at Townfott, in the town of Cumnock, Old Cumnock, Ayrshire.^[1]

Matthew died after the death of his wife (1870) but before the death of his daughter Agnes (Arthur) Riggans in 1904. (See Research Note 3)

RIGGINS MATHEW, --, -------, 1859, Old Cumnock, 610/ 29 (this is a 4 yr old boy who died from drowning in the Green Mill Dam - no parents recorded. He was buried in Churchyard Cumnock (cert by Hugh McClelland, sexton). Informant was Procurator Fiscal, I F Murdoch?
