Biography

Martha Jane Roach was born on July 25, 1853, in Mississippi.^[1] She was the daughter of Richard Roach and Delila Raeburn. At age 7 she was in their home in Marshall, co., Mississippi, near the Byhalia Post office. in the home at the time were her brothers, S F Roach-16, John Roach-14, and William-12.

She married James Mathis Barlow January 6, 1870, in Mississippi.^[2] They had three children.

1. James Walter Barlow (1871-1906)
2. Sarah Barlow (1873-)
3. Joseph Jackson Barlow (1875-1922)

They started out their married life farming on his brother, E. A Barlow's farm in Tippah, Mississippi. ^[3]

She died as a young mother of 22, on February 21, 1876, in Bethlehem, Marshall, Mississippi, and was burried in the Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery.^[1]
