John is the ninth child and youngest son of William Roadhouse. His wife, Mary Briggs, was the third child of Stephen Briggs and Elizabeth Coates, who came to Canada in 1830 and settled in Albion Twp. (Children of Stephen Briggs: James, Jane, Richard Thomas, Joseph, Margaret, m. Charles Atkinson, Ellen, m. William Agar, Fanny, William). John and Mary Roadhouse lived in Albion Twp. until the spring of 1857 when they moved to Fullerton Twp. and settled near Mitchell. They had 10 children, all born in Albion Twp., but only six survived infancy. There is no record of the deaths of the other four, but since her obituary mentions only six surviving, it is assumed that the other four died in Albion Twp. before the family moved to Fullerton Twp. The complete list of the children is from the family record of Rev. Job Roadhouse.
