Biography

Edward Robinson was born in South Carolina about 1804.[1][2]

Edward, a resident of Captain Davis' District in Jones County, Georgia was a fortunate drawer in the Georgia land lottery of 1827 receiving Lot #194, Section 3, District 10, Troup County.[3][4]

On the 1830 census of Meriwether County, Georgia Edward is listed with the following household members:

He married Susannah "Susan" Hall on 20 Dec 1832 in Meriwether County, Georgia[6][7][8][9] and the couple had the following known children:

  1. Mary Jane Robinson was born in Mississippi 13 Mar 1834 and died 16 Jun 1921 in Bogue Chitto, Lincoln County, Mississippi.[10]
  2. William Robinson was born in Mississippi 1837.[1]
  3. Mary Robinson was born in Mississippi about 1839.[1][2]
  4. Marion L.[2] Robinson was born in Mississippi about 1841.[1]
  5. Charlotte Robinson was born in Mississippi about 1844.[1][2]

29 Aug 1833 - Edward M. Robinson sells to Hardaway Hawkins, for $150.00, Lot 194, consisting of 202 1/2 acres, in the Tenth district, Meriwether County, Georgia. Recorded 19 Nov 1833.[11]

He appears on the Attala County, Mississippi Tax Lists for the years 1837,[12] 1838,[13] 1839,[14] 1840, 1841,[15] 1842,[16] 1843, 1844, 1846, 1847, 1849, 1850, 1853, 1854.

On 07 Jan 1856 Edward purchased 80 acres of land in Smith County, Mississippi described as the E 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of Section 24 in Township 1 North Range 8 East, and containing 80.13 acres. The SW 1/4's corner mark is located at 31.9023241, -89.4403445 on County Road 19 in Smith County, Mississippi. Edward paid $1 an acre for a total of $80.13 for the land which he purchased for settlement and cultivation. He received certificate #13030 from the land office for the property.[17]

He then appears on the census of 1860 in Smith County, Mississippi[2] and is listed on the 1861 Land Tax Roll for Smith County, Mississippi as owning the SW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 and SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 and W1/2 of SE 1/4 and NE 1/4 of SW 1/4, a total of 180 acres, in Section 24, Township 1, Range 8 and valued at $540.[18] The 1864 personal property tax list for Smith County shows Edward as owning and being taxed on 1 clock valued at $8, 17 cattle, 1 poll tax (white male aged 21-60), 11 slaves under the age of 15 valued at $2750, 2 males slaves aged 15-45 valued at $2000, 6 female slaves aged 15-45 valued at $4200, 3 slaves aged 45-60 valued at $150; total tax=$210.29.[19]

By 1866, he has sold the property he owned in 1861 with some of it going to his daughter-in-law Narcissus' father Peter B. Smith, namely 100 acres defined as the W1/2 of the SE1/4, and the E1/2 of SE1/4 of SW1/4, of Section 24 in Township 1 Range 8. The SE1/4 of the NW1/4 and the SW1/4 of the NE1/4 have been sold to Burwell Craft, Narcissus' mother's kin, and the NE1/4 of the SW1/4 is listed in 1866 as vacant land.[20]
