Nancy Rogers was born in the Cherokee Nation (East), about 1808, the daughter of Robert Rogers and Lucy Cordery, a Cherokee. [1] She married Alexander Jordan about 1825. Alexander signed up his family of three to move west in 1829 [2] when they were living at Terrapin Creek, now Alabama. Nancy and Alexander were the parents of five children, Elizabeth, Andrew, Eliza, Catherine, and Alexander Jordan. The family relocated again, settling in Nacogdoches, Texas by 1835. Alexander was killed there in 1839 and Nancy married John Anderson in 1841. [3] They were the parents of three children, Sarah, Robert, and Richard Anderson. [4] Nancy and her children Catherine, Alexander, Robert, Richard, and Sarah all are listed on the Old Settler Roll of 1851 living in the Flint District, [5] but the 1860 census shows her and daughter Catherine back in Texas. [6] Her death date is unknown. Son Alexander returned to Indian Territory in 1877.
