Biography

Maria (Rohde) Suhr has roots in the region now known as Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Maria (Mary) Rohde was born September 11, 1880 in Germany. There she met and married John Suhr. They had their first child Annie in Germany in 1908.

John, Mary and Annie immigrated to America at the same time as the rest of the the HD Rohde Sr. family. They sailed from Cuxhaven arriving March 12, 1911 on the ship "President Lincoln". The Passenger Arrival List in New York, lists Mary (30), John (28), and 3 year old child "Anny".

The arrival list also states both John and Mary could read and write, that John was a carpenter and states his father's name is Henrich Suhr of Herrenstraße, Rendsburg.

Wanda said, "Mary was much loved by grandmother and when she died both my mother (Alice Henningsen Johnson) and grandmother traveled to Omaha, NE for her funeral. I remember that time well, because at the time my sister and I had to stay at a Day Care after school for the first time in our lives."

Mary Rohde Suhr died of cancer in September 6, 1952 and is buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. Find A Grave: Memorial #154730766.[4]
