Biography

Ida Ulm was born May 6, 1859 in Wabash County, Illinois. She was born to Carlton And Nancy Baird Root in the Lick Prairie vicinity. In 1860 census, age 1, went by middle name Lizza, lived with parents in Pleasant Hill, Wabash County Illinois.^[1]

She married Benjamin C. Ulm of the vicinity on March 26, 1925. She was a faithful member of the Christian Church first at Lick Prairie and for many years of West Salem.

On the 14/15 day of June in 1880, Ida was 20 and living with her husband Benjamin age 22, and baby daugther Melda N 10 months old in Lick Prairie, Wabash County, Illinois in dwelling 11. Benjamin was a farmer.^[2]

On June 5, 1900, Ida was 41. Her husband Benjamin, age 42, was living in Salem. Edwards County, Illinois on Wide Street with her. On the census the family was on sheet number 6, dwelling 130 and was family number 131. Benajmin had been married to Ida age 41, for 21 years. Benjamin was a Day Laborer and owned his own Farm. Living with them was thier sons Truman, age 17 and Ralph age 11. Ida had 2 of 4 children living. Truman and Ralph were in school. Everyone in the family could read and write.^[3]

On April 27, 1910, Ida was 50 and her husband Benjamin was 52 and still living in Salem. Benjamin was a owned a fruit farm. He still owned his farm. They had been now married 31 years. Son Ralph W. age 21 lived with them. They also has a white female servent named Ola Bierhaus age 24 living with them. Ralph worked on his father's farm. They lived next door to their son Truman and his wife Viola M. ^[4]

On January 27, 1920, Ida was 60 and still living with her husband Ben age 62. They still lived in West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. Benjamin was a retired farmer..^[5]

Benjamin passed away in March 26, 1925 in Edwards County, Illinois. He was buried in the Moraivian Cemetery on March 28, 1925.^[6][7] Find A Grave: Memorial #85714473

On April 3, 1930, Ida was 70 and a widow. She lived by herself In Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. She lived on Williams Street in dwelling and family number 45. She owned her home which was valued at $600.00. She never attended school but she could read and write. She lived next door to her brother Francis Carlton Root.^[8]

Ida Lizza Root Ulm died August 12, 1935 in West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. She died at the home of her son Ralph Ulm. She had a long illness. Funeral services were held at the home of Ralph on 14 August, 1935. She was buried in the family plot at the Moravian Cemetery, West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois^[9]Find A Grave: Memorial #85714556
