Biography

In 1860 Lily was 3 years old living with her parents. Carlton her father was age 33, lived in Pleasant Hill, Wabash County Illinois, near the Gard's Point Post Office, he was a farmer. His dwelling number was 892, his family number was 894, his real estate $1,000.0 and estate $500.00. Carlton lived with his wife Nancy (Baird) age 32, his other daughters Mary M age 11, and his daughter Lizza age 1.^[1]

In 1870, Lily was 13. Her Father, Carlton, was 42 and lived in Lick Prairie, Wabash, Illinois. He lived at dwelling 17, near the Gard's Point Post Office. He was still a farmer. His real estate value was $2,800 and his personal estate value was $600. He lived with his wife Nancy (Baird) age 42 and their other children Mary age 21, Hattie age 8 and Francis age 5. He also had living with him Thomas Tapley age 19 and Amos Fuller age 19, both were farm laborers.^[2]

Lily married Jeremigh Swartzbaugh on July 11, 1878 in Mount Carmel, Wabash County.

In 1880, Lily was 23 and living with her husband Jeremiah Swartzbaugh, age 39. They lived in Salem, Edwards County, Illinois in dwelling 180. They had two daughters Laura age 9 and May age 1 month old. Jeremigh was a farmer and Lily kept house. ^[3]

On June 11, 1900, Lily was 42 and still living in Salem Edwards County, Illinois with her husband and children. The dwelling order in that year's Census was 215 and the family number was 216. This was listed on sheet 9. Lily could read and write. On this date she had 4 out of 6 children living. Jeremiah was 59. The childeren were May age 20, Charles age 13, Amy age 9 and Ray age 8. There was a boarder living with the family, Leonard Brake age 50.^[4]

On May 7, 1910, Lily was 59 and lived in Paragould Ward 3, Greene Arkansas on street North 4 Avenue. Lily and Jeremiah had been married 30 years. Jeremigh was 69. Their children living with them were Charles M. age 21, Amy age 19 and Ray R. age 17. Jeremiah was still a farmer, his sons Charles and Ray helped him on the Farm. Amy was a Music Teacher.^[5]

Lily died February 3, 1916 in Harris Texas.^[6] She is buried in the Linwood Cemetery in Paragould, Green County, Arkansas.^[7] Find A Grave: Memorial #77486420
