Hannah Ross was born 13 May 1702 in Billerica, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony. She is the daughter of Thomas Ross (Jr.) and Sarah (Unknown) Ross.[1][2][3] Hannah Married William Crosbey (aka Crosby) in Billerica, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[4]
Hannah Ross, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Ross of Billerica, was b. in Billerica 13 May 1702 and d. 4 Nov 1756.
Hannah was of Scottish descent. It is possible that she was the grand-daughter of a Scottish prisoner deported to America in a group of soldiers sold into servitude in the war that Charles (son of Charles I, executed in 1649) waged in 1651 when he tried to recover the throne of England by invading the country with an army of Scottish Highlanders. Mrs. Crosby in her book gives an account furnished by a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. This account states that many errors were made in recording the unfamiliar Scottish names. In a list several persons by the name Ross are listed, including "Jonas". The account states that all these men are found later in New England records except Jonas, that the name was so illegible in the original that it may well have been the grandfather of Hannah.
Mrs. Crosby tells us that this Thomas Ross was a servant of Edward Winship in 1656, and that he married 16 Jan 1661 Seeth Holman, the daughter of William and Winifred Holman. Winifred underwent a "long and ardous trial for witchcraft in Cambridge in 1659, from which she was finally acquitted. Seeth Holman was killed by Indians in Billerica 5 Aug 1695.
