Kinchin was born in North Carolina in 1802, son of David Kinchen Ross and Sarah Martin. He married Winny Bynum on 1 Oct 1826. They are reported as having 17 children; 13 sons and 5 daughters. The first in 1827, the last in 1861. Which means Winny bore children for 34 years until 1861, when she would have been 50 years old.
Kinchin Ross registered on 1 Jul 1859 at the Land Office at Batesville his payment for the SE quarter of the North West quarter; and the South West quarter of the North East quarter of Section 34, Townsip 15 .... 80 acres in Independence, Arkansas. James Buchanan is President of the United States.
The decade beginning in 1850 included glorious years for the county. In the ten years, 1850 to 1860, the population of Independence County rose from 7,767 to 14,307, an increase of 6,540. In no other ten years of the county's history has a gain of this number been recorded. The population of the entire state showed a sharp rise, increasing 209,897 to 435,450. There was a great migration of people from other Southern states into Arkansas, and particularly the state of Tennessee furnished many new citizens to Independence County. Since the county was, of course, primarily a county of smaller farmers, the rural areas became of more significance. Fifteen new post offices were established in the county from 1850 to 1860. [1]
Kinchen died in Conway County, Arkansas in 1879.

Copy of a letter sent by Jennea V. Wren which she had in her possession. 10 August 1992-" State of ARK- Conway county- 30 March 1862--Dear children, I this morning take my pen in hand to let you all know that we are all well and hope when this comes to hand they may find you all well. I have been waiting for a letter sometime but have failed to get any since I wrote to you before the _______ I can't tell. We got a letter from M.M. They were at Cortland , Alabama but did not know how long they would stay there, but expected to go to Corinth to fight the Enemy.
It is with sorrow that I have to inform you that L. W. Ross is no more. He has gone to another world no more to return. He died the 15th of this month at Atlanta , in Georgia . He wanted to see us all but said it was improbable. He said that was all the objection he had to dying, believing that he was going to a better world than this to partake of unwithering joy at God's right hand.
I cannot tell you anything about James H. Ross. We have not heard anything from him since the 4th of January. He was at Fort Pillow then, 70 miles above Memphis . William B. Ross is gone to Jacksonport ( Jacksonville , AR ?). I left him last Monday morning about 25 miles from home. His captain's name is Nunley. I expect he will stay there some time.
The health of the people is good what few men is left, most all of them has gone to fight for their Liberty and their children after them. George {George Rutherford Herriott}, I want you, if you please to take this letter to Louisa V.
