Johannes (John) Francis Ryerson, son of Frans and Jannetje (Dey) Ryerson, was born or baptized on April 1, 1724, in New York. He married Mary (Maria) Wessels in 1743 in Brooklyn, New York. They had three children during their marriage. He died on April 8, 1798, in his hometown at the age of 74, and was buried in Queens County, New York.
He usually spelled his name "Ryarson" and lived most of his life in Brooklyn, New York. He probably grew up on his father's farm in New Jersey and acquired considerable property in New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Nova Scotia, Canada. [1]
He was a Loyalist during the Revolutionary War[2] and fled with other refugees to Nova Scotia. He left with his wife, sons, a daughter, and two servants on October 1783. In 1789, by law, he was able to regain some of his lands and he returned to Brooklyn, New York, where he .purchased a large farm in Dutch Kills, modern day Long Island City, in May 1790.[3][1]
His son Francis remained in Nova Scotia, but his son George returned to Brooklyn with his father. [1]

Johannes (John) Francis Ryerson married Mary (Maria) Wessels, his cousin, in Brooklyn, New York, in 1743 when he was 19 years old.[1]
Death
Johannes (John) Francis Ryerson died on April 8, 1798, in New York when he was 74 years old.[1]
Burial
Johannes is buried in the Ryerson Family Cemetery (Defunct) in Long Island City, Queens County, New York.[4]
