Amen by me Chas Ryves Administration was granted to William Ryves during the minority of his son, Charles.[5]
Just a week after writing his will, Charles Ryves died. He was buried in his church at Hornchurch on 22nd December.[6]
A marble memorial says that he was born in Blandford,Dorset, that he was 50 years old, a professor of sacred theology , vicar of Hornchurch and fellow of the College of St Mary of Winchester in Oxford. [7]
Alumini Oxonienses gives a death date of 1622 and dates for his matriculation, and degrees which would suggest a birth date of 1564 .
Evidence from his will, parish register and memorial plus Church of England data base shows both the estimated birth and death to be incorrect ,though the date of his DD is confirmed elsewhere.(FASTI) It mentions only his living at Stanton St John in Oxford. This is probably because his appointment would not be in diocesan records since Hornchurch was not under it's jurisdiction (it was a 'peculiar' of St Mary Winchester, Oxford ie New College)[9] .but is quite clear that he had been vicar of Hornchurch from 1597 and died there.
