Biography

Orissa was born in 1829 in Yates, Orleans County, New York. She was the daughter of Stephen Salsbury and Nancy Stockwell.

In 1850 she was living in Yates, Orleans, New York.[1] The household included Stephen Salisbery 61, Nancy Salisbery 57, Susan Salisbury 28, Jonathan Salisbery 17, James Salisbury 53 and Ornisa Salisbery 20. Stephen was a farmer and ??, Jonathan and James were farmers.

In 1855 she was living in Clarendon, Orleans, New York.[2] The household included Benjamin Woodhull 49, wife Orissa Woodhull 27, son Gilbert A Woodhull 12, son George Woodhull 8, daughter Emeline Woodhull 4, son Harrison Woodhull 2, daughter Elizabeth Woodhull 3 months, mother Eunice Woodhull 80 and boarder Ugeb Montselle 27. Benjamin was physician. Ugeb was a stone cutter. Given the ages, it is most likely that Orissa was Benjamin's second wife and the mother of Emeline, Harrison and Elizabeth.

In 1860 she was living in Village of Albion Town of Barre, Orleans, New York.[3] The household included Benjamin Woodhull 54, Orissa B Woodhull 30, Gilbert R Woodhull 17, George H Woodhull 12, Emeline S Woodhull 9, Stephen S Woodhull 4, Fidelia M Woodhull 6, Nancy L Woodhull 6 months, and Jane Liverman 34. Benjamin was a physician and dentist. Gilbert was a farm laborer. Jane was a housekeeper.

She died 11 Dec 1860, probably in Albion, and is buried in Mount Albion Cemetery, Albion, Orleans County, New York.[4]

After her death, several of her children went to live with her sister Susan.
