Mary Jane was born at her parents farm on Lantz Ridge in Preston County, West Virginia. She was enumerated with her parents in the 1860 Census for Preston County, but did not appear in the 1870 census for Tucker County, West Virginia, where her family moved in 1867. It is presumed she died during the period between 1860 and 1870, but uncertain whether it was before or after the move to Tucker County. Her probable burial location is the John S. Sanders Cemetery, Lantz Ridge, Preston County, where most of the graves are marked with field stones, or are unmarked.
