Biography

Avery Saunders was born on 08 Sep 1761, at Chester, Province of New Hampshire, [1] and died around 24 Apr 1846, at Au Sable, Clinton, New York, United States. He is buried in Allen Cemetery, Peru, Clinton, New York, United States, [2]

He was the son of Jonathan Saunders (abt 1711-abt 1775) and Sarah Rowell (abt 1723-aft Sept 1761). [1] Jonathan and Sarah had at least nine children [3]

Corporal Avery Saunders served with New Hampshire Militia during the American Revolution.

He served in the Revolutionary War in the New Hampshire Militia Born at Old Chester, New Hampshire, August 1761. (Note: his birth certificate states that he was born September 08, 1761, in Chester, New Hampshire), he lived at Haverhill, Grafton, New Hampshire when he enlisted. He moved to Pembroke, Clinton, New York (currently Genesse county) in 1814 and applied for a veteran's pension there in January 1833. [4].

He served in Sgt Ladd's Company [5] and in Bedel's Regiment out of Haverhill, Grafton New Hampshire, as a Private. He also served in Capt Enoch Chase's Company, the 2nd New Hampshire Regiment, Commanded by Lieut. George Reid. Some of his records from the National Archives state he served under General Washington. He enlisted in the Companies mentioned above, as well as in two others:

He was in Sgt Ladd's Command New Hampshire, [6] and in Bedel's New Hampshire Regiment, as a Private. [7] He served in Capt Chase's Company under Col Reid, and in [8] 1780, in Capt Walker's Company (ranks not given). [9] In 1782 he was in Capt Webster's Rangers from New Hampshire, as a Corporal. [10]

He may have coincided in at least two Regiments with his brother Jonathan Saunders (1747-1828) in Bedel's Regiment and the New Hampshire Rangers.

Avery married Ednah Chase (abt 1765-abt 1842) on 11 Dec 1783, at Haverhill, Grafton, New Hampshire, United States. [11] The marriage ended with her death around 1842. [12] He died 4 years later around 1846. Avery and Esther had at least one child, Loruhamah Saunders (1789-1844), [2] and according to Find-a-Grave, several others:

Regarding the last name Saunders Note that the surname "Saunders" often appears as "Sanders" and in the information located for many members of the family, both surnames are found. Present-day family members go by the name Saunders and this is the LNAB that has been used in WikiTree for the family.
