Biography

Thomas Savory's birth year is estimated from the year of his marriage.

Thomas was named as brother in the will of Robert Savory.^[1] That these two men were brothers in asserted in that Thomas named a godson as Thomas Savory in his own will (Robert's son was Thomas), and relatives of Thomas's daughter, the Harper's, were godparents to Thomas's nephew's children, here.

Marriage of Thomas Savory and Mary Marshe.

Thomas married Mary Marshe on 28 Nov 1577 in Hannington, Wiltshire (members of the Marshe family were witnesses on Thomas's will).^[2] The marriage names several of Mary's Marshe relatives, which was added later.

Thomas's will named his wife, Mary, and only one child, Ales the wife of John Harper.

• Ales Savory was probably baptised on 7 Sep 1578 in Hannington.^[3] Ales married John Harper in 1600 N. S. in Hannington.^[4]

Thomas Savorie was buried on 17 Jan 1604 in Hannington.^[5]

The will of Thomas Savery of Hannington (written on XVII December 1603) named my god sonne Thomas Savery; William Harper son of John Harper; Thomas Harper son of John Harper; John Harper my son-in-law; my wifes marriage estate; Ales my daughter; Mary my [?] executor; John Harper and Ales his wife; Mary my wife; Humphrey Savery and Thomas Savery overseers. Witnessed by Richard Marshe and Hynery Marsh. Proved 27 Apr 1604.^[6]
