The first record found for Dicey Sawyer is her marriage to Martin Perkins on 21 Aug 1787 in Caswell County, North Carolina.[1][2][3]
Dicey Sawyer's early life can only be estimated until more information about her is forthcoming. We suggest that she was born around 1770 (if she was 18 when married) in either Virginia (where Martin was born) or Caswell County, North Carolina (where they were married).[4]
Dicey and Martin Perkins made their home in Caswell County and had perhap six children (according to the 1810 census).[5] The only child found named in the records is:[4]
Sarah Salley (1794-1860)
The 1790 U.S Census lists Martin as head of the Perkins household in Caswell County.[6] The 1810 census[5] and 1820 census[7] show that the Perkins' continued to live in Caswell County. The 1820 census indicates that both Martin and Dicey were living, in addition to a grown daughter. No 1830 census record is found for Martin or Dicey.
Since we find no further record of her life, we will say (for now) that Dicey passed away after 1820, probably in Caswell County, North Carolina.
