Biography

Henry was named in his grandmother's will on 2 June 1719 at Accomack Co, VA. He was named as grandson Henry, son of my son Henry Scarburgh in the will of Elizabeth Scarburgh.

Henry was named in his father-in-law's will on 11 October 1729 at Accomack Co, VA. In his will Henry Custis, wife Ann, named: eldest son to have liberty to seat himself on that part I bought of William Selby; sons Henry & Robinson Custis land where I now live containing 1333 acres; sons Henry, Robinson & Thomas all my land & marshes on Jengoteague Island; son Thomas 600 acres at Massongoe, also 600 acres near Deep Creek; daughters Ann, Tabitha & Frances. Children to be at age at 18. Should my wife be with child, said child to have an equal share of my estate with my other children; daughter Leah Custis; daughter Margaret Scarburgh, wife of Henry Scarburgh Jr.

Henry was named in his uncle's will on 24 February 1733 at Accomack Co, VA. He was named as kinsman Henry Scarburgh Jr., son of my brother Col. Henry Scarburgh and was given all my interest in Tangier by Bennet Scarbugh.

Henry was named in his father's will on 31 August 1735 at Accomack Co, VA. He was named as son Henry and given the land where his father now lives in the will of Henry Scarburgh.

Henry was named as the executor of a will on 2 October 1743 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that at the probated of the will of William Watts, wife Comfort, that Henry Scarburgh was appointed guardian of John Watts, heir at law to the testator. Henry Scarburgh also qualified to settle the estate.

He wrote a WILL on 4 October 1744 at Accomack Co, Virginia.

  • To son Charles Scarburgh all my lands on Tangier Island.
  • To son Bennet Scarburgh all my lands in Worcester County, formerly Somerset County, Maryland.
  • Wife Margaret.
  • Eldest son Henry Scarburgh. Wife and 5 children residual legatees.
  • Daughters Margaret and Ann.
  • Unborn child.
  • Brother-in-law Henry Custis and friends William Bagge and Thomas Teackle to divide estate. Wife to have the tutition of all my children until they arrive at 21 or marry.
  • Executors: Wife, Henry Custis, William Bagge & Thomas Teackle .
  • Witt: George Douglas, George Holden, James Mitchel and Richard Drummond.
  • Prob: William Bagge appointed guardian to Henry Scarburgh, eldest son and infant heir at law to the testator.

Henry died at Accomack Co, Virginia between Oct 4th, 1744, when he wrote his Will, and 26 March 1745 when his will was probated.
