This profile is part of the Carter Name Study.
Angelica (Schuyler) Church is the descendant of a New Netherland settler.

Angelica Schuyler was the eldest daughter of Philip Schuyler and Catharine (Van Rensselaer) Schuyler.

Angelica married John Barker Church, alias John Carter, in 1777. In a letter, her father wrote: "Carter and my eldest daughter ran off and were married on the twenty-third of July". [1] Angelica and John had the following children:

  1. Philip b. 14 Apr 1777 [2]
  2. Catherine b. 4 Nov 1779 [2]
  3. John Barker II [2]
  4. Elizabeth chr. 1784 [3]
  5. Richard chr. 1786 [4]
  6. Alexander b. 1792 [5]
  7. Richard Steven Hamilton b. 2 Apr 1798 [2]

Some online genealogies list an Angelica born about 1800 as one of their children, but a source for this child has not been found.

She was living in Boston in 1777 and 1779. [2]

In 1783, she and her family left for Europe. [2] They first were in Paris, and later lived in London. [2]

She and her family returned to New York in May 1797. [2]

A death notice in the March 7, 1814 edition of the New York Evening Post reported: "On Sunday evening last, Mrs. ANGELICA CHURCH, wife of John B. Church, Esq. in the 58th year of her age".[6]
