Josiah Simmons was listed as a son of Thomas and Susannah (Salisbury) Seamans in a compiled Seamans genealogy, but no primary record connecting him to these parents is known.[1] Indeed, the only primary record seems to be of his marriage to Mary Lee in Rehoboth in Bristol County in the Province of Massachusetts Bay in 1731.[2] A search of probate and land records in Bristol County turned up no further record of Josiah.
There is only one birth record for Mary Lee near Rehoboth around this time. She was the daughter of Richard Lee, born in 1705. Aside from having the right name at the right time, there is some further circumstantial evidence that this Mary did marry Josiah and that she later married George Jenkins at Rehoboth in 1742. If so, this may explain the lack of records of Josiah.
