Biography

Abraham Self was born in North Carolina on 15 Sep 1799.[1][2]

He married Martha Freeman on 13 Jan 1820. They had nine children:[1]

  1. William Vanhook (born 22 Oct 1820)
  2. Sarah Ann M. (born 11 Mar 1823), may have married Robert Dellyhay on 16 Feb 1843[3][4]
  3. Elisabeth (born 28 Oct 1824), may have married Ezekiel Parrish on 18 Feb 1844[5][6]
  4. Tabitha (born 24 Feb 1827)[2]
  5. Susanah (born 19 Oct 1828)[2]
  6. Martha Ann (born 4 Apr 1830)[2]
  7. Rosanah Mariah (born 3 Jul 1833)[2]
  8. Dilla Margrate (born 25 Sep 1835)[2]
  9. Samuel J. (born 12 Dec 1837)[2]

Abraham and Martha lived in Dickson County, Tennessee.[7][8][2]

Self households in Dickson County

The 1820 census lists two Self households in Dickson County, Tennessee. One is Samuel Self in a household with 11 members. The other is an older Abraham Self living alone. The census records (with age groups for males on the left, females on the right) are represented here:

  <10 10-15 16-18 16-25 26-44 45+ <10 10-15 16-25 26-44 45+
Samuel[9] 3 3 2 1 1 1
Abraham[10] 1

By 1830 the number of Self households in Dickson County had grown to four:

  <5 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 <5 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59
Samuel Sr.[11] 1 1 1 1 1
Abraham[7] 3 1 3 2 1
Peter[12] 1 1
Samuel Jr.[13] 1 2 1

And, in 1840:

  <5 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 <5 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-29 30-39 40-49
Abraham[8] 1 2 1 1 3 3 1 1
William[14] 1 1 1 1

These records suggest that:

  • Abraham's father was Samuel, who was born between 1776 and 1780 and died after 1830.
  • Abraham's grandfather was Abraham, who was born before 1775 and died after 1820.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:

Self-1943 and Self-1624 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth year and place, same spouse, both had a daughter Tabitha in 1827.

I agree. Are the same.

Merged. I wonder how long it will be before the DNA is propagated BACK to the profile?
