Rita Hicks is my DNA confirmed FULL SIBLING. Per AncestryDNA, we share 2,360 cM which when uploaded to MyHeritage is analyzed as 2,429.2‎ cM with 47 Shared segments.

Our parents did not submit to commercial DNA but are confirmed by cousins on each side.

DNA confirmed relationships have been confirmed by triangulating with numerous cousins, a sister, an uncle and a nephew on AncestryDNA, 23&me, and FtDNA.

I do not believe in reinventing the wheel.

If there is a canned statement of DNA confirmation, please do share it with me. Any grandparent I check as DNA confirmed has been triply verified. I find it offensive to require more than that. I welcome PRACTICAL HELP in determining the verbiage.

Howdy Cynthia,

I see we're 8th cousins, 1x removed. It's great to know of you and I'll send you a message. Sincerely, Cheri

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. I know you are trying to improve WikiTree, and it is greatly appreciated. But with well over 200 unsourced profiles on your Watchlist, please be careful about how much you are taking on to improve at Wikitree.

Cynthia, I noticed you adopted a number of profiles in Feb 2020. At least some of these profiles lack the basic Biography and Sources headers. An example is Martin-3287. Could you go through these and fix them? Thanks.

Are you related?

It was some errors on the page I found. So I send corrections.

Hello Cynthia. I am following up on my request of July 14 to be added to the trusted list for Esther (Luten) Hicks (abt.1673-abt.1754). As I explained in our email exchanges, she is my 8th great grandmother. I will resend the request now so you can approve it - thx.

Hello Cynthia,

Thanks for creating pre-1700 profiles like William Hazel (1675-1719) and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Hazel (1680-1750).

Our community standard is that all pre-1700 profiles require at least one reliable source be cited in order to proceed with creation. (Please see Help citing pre-1700 profiles.) In the case of William Hazel, the cited source is Geni, but Geni is a public tree and this not considered a reliable source and thus does not satisfy the requirement. However, sometimes public trees contain sources, in which case, it is a good lead and those sources can be cited. For William Hazel, a photo of what appears to be an original document appears, but I'm not seeing an explanation of what the document is or any helpful transcription.

If you need help with William Hazel, the US Southern Colonies Project is a good place to start since he died in the Province of Maryland.

Please let me know if you need help or clarification on any of this.

Thanks.

-William

In the case of Elizabeth (Reynolds) Hazel (1680-1750), the locations were all blank. Please try to provide at least a birth or death location guess rather than leaving all locations blank. This helps disambiguate people since we have a global tree, locations help distinguish one profile of the same name from another. Even a guess such as a continent, e.g., North America, is better than blank. Please read more here. You can explain the rationale for your guess in a = = Research Notes = = section. I've updated Elizabeth already to do all this, so you can refer to her as an example.

William, I would LOVE some help with this line.

I believe what is presently in Wikitree is incorrect as there are more than one WIlliam and Richard same as any other given line but Elizabeth Reynolds Hazel is confused as well.

These are directs for me.

I do not know how to request the assistance of any project but have messaged and posted on a few profiles that I would like to work them out together. Thank you.

Sincerely, Cynthia

Hi Cynthia

Thank you for adding a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches, once that has been done, you add any remaining names manually.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments, or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there, you can leave a comment, or send a private message.

Regarding your question on Honeycutt-341:
You can see your contribution count for the month on your View Badges page. Yours presently says: With 123 contributions this month, Cynthia (Hicks) Curtis has already earned the March Club 100 badge, to be awarded on the first day of April. Another 877 in March will upgrade it to a Club 1,000 badge.
So you will get at least the 100 badge for March.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for merging Abraham Self (1799-aft.1850). When merging, please be careful to not drop the references tag like what happened here.

I've fixed that here along with using Ancestry linking templates.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like help using templates.

Thanks.

Congratulations in getting back before 1700! Since you are now back in the time period where many people can be descended from those ancestors, we need more details in your source area. As collaborative genealogists, we need to tell each other our sources so that we can work together to assess the relative reliability of the source and the evidence it contains. posted by Cynthia (Hicks) Curtis
Cynthia,

Yes, it can be tough waiting for merges.

To see what you have done, click on Contributions from the MyWikiTree menu.

On the pre1700 page, scroll down to 1.3.

Kay, I cannot find it! I see my contributions but I cannot find the Pre 1700 on the contributions page and when I click on the badge itself, I just see the test again...

I am still learning and there is SO much I want to do!

Cynthia,

Yes, there is a learning curve to using WikiTree but it sure is worth it.

On your MyWikiTree menu, click Contributions. Then just scroll down. If you want to see more about a specific contribution, click on the profile. For example, yesterday at 13:43 you created Ester Luten.

Here's a direct link to the Pre1700 help page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources There is a link there for Reliable Sources, which will then lead to the projects (pick the one where your person lived/died)

posted by Kay (Sands) Knight
"This activity feed shows your 2048 contributions." I still do not see the entry for the day I did the 1700 but your link takes me to the place where the 1.3 you said to look at is located. Thank you.

Before creating or editing profiles of people born before 1700 you need to:

Read and understand this page. Coordinate with a pre-1700 project. Sign the Wiki Genealogist Honor Code. Participate as a member for at least one week. Make at least 50 WikiTree contributions. Take the pre-1700 self-certification quiz.

(I think I have done all these things. Is it just an automated response?)

In regards to your comment about why you removed the wife from Hold-3175. It still would have been nice to have contacted the profile manager. Communication, collaboration and courtesy. Per the Honor code.

Hi Cynthia. You removed the wife of Holt-3175 without contacting the profile manager. Removing a person from a profile is a big move please contact profile managers before you remove or add people. Collaboration, comunication and courtesy are important on wikitree. Thank You.

Trudy, I removed her from the WRONG Charles Holt where she sat for years. I "married" her to her correct Charles Holt.

Thank you for your comment, however. I appreciate knowing that our actions are monitored.

My comment is a general comment to the general population. Sources on profiles need to be actual sources. Many lines have issues. Personal reseach cannot be checked. The profiles that were added to did have soures. Some profiles do not have sources because the sources are not correct. Just because a profile is empty does not mean it isn't being researched. Contacting profile managers is part of Wikitree collaboration. Thank You for your work.
posted by Anonymous Roach
Please contact profile managers before you " up date profiles" with your " personal reseach. The people on these profiles are also our grandparents.
posted by Anonymous Roach
Can you be specific? Did I make an incorrect edit or is it just an etiquette specific to Wikitree? I have only recently actually been using the site since having an account for a very long time and I do not mean to step on toes.

Some of the profiles here are without sources and I have been researching since 1977. Thank you for your input and suggestions.

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention those profiles need.

I noticed that you are using Ancestry for sources. We have a template which creates a link to Ancestry records. We suggest that you use that so the SysTech team can keep links working if the URLs are changed by Ancestry again. You can read more about it in the Links to Ancestry FAQ.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the How-to been helpful or left you with any questions? I am here to help with any problems or queries you may have. Just click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page or send me a private message.

Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cynthia, Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz! Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research for time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :)
