He was baptized on June 24, 1897, in Gannow (Gannow is a parish in Burnley), at St John the Baptist. Richard appears to have remained with his family until his marriage.
Richard married Margaret Alice Lyons in 1919. The marriage was registered in the third quarter, in Burnley. The couple would have at least one child, Harold, in 1925. In the 1939 Register, Richard and Margaret are still residing in Burnley. Richard declares his occupation as "Railway Goods Guard". There is a redacted line at the address indicating the possibility of a second child. Richard passed away in 1971. His death was registered in the fourth quarter, in Dover, Kent, England. He was seventy four.
