Jeremiah was born in Burnley, Lancashire, England, on May 23, 1903. He was the son, and third of seven children, of Henry Sharples and Sarah Stowell. He was baptized on August 20, 1903, in Burnley, at St John the Baptist, Gannow. He was baptized the same day as older sister, Elizabeth Ann.
Jeremiah married Elizabeth Ann Pugh in 1924. The marriage was registered in the second quarter, in Burnley. The couple would have five children between 1924, and 1934. Jeremiah worked for the railway as a locomotive fireman, and in 1939, he and his family were enumerated in the Register residing in Carlisle, Cumberland, England. Jeremiah and family returned to Lancashire. His death was registered in Burnley in 1957. Jeremiah was buried on February 28th at the Burnley Cemetery. His residence at his time of death was 65 Villiers Street, Burnley. He was fifty three.
