Biography

During the War of 1812, Henry Shaver served as a sergeant and a private in the 5th Lincoln Militia. Henry Shafer served from November 13 to 24, 1812 in Captain John Smith’s Company. [1]

He served as a private from September 6 to 11, 1813 in Lieutenant Michael Showers’ Detachment. [2]

He served as a private from October 22 to 24, 1813 in Captain Israel Dawdy’s Detachment. [3]

In 1814, he married Mary Roelufson.

On September 16, 1815, he made a war claim as a resident of Ancaster Twp. for a sleigh which was impressed in the winter of 1814 and lost. Frederick Vanderlip of Ancaster Twp. certified the claim. On January 31, 1824, Henry resubmitted his claim as a yeoman of Ancaster Twp. and reported that Frederick Vanderlip had since passed away. [4]

He was buried in Bethesda United Church Cemetery, Ancaster Twp.
