Notations on the children of Jacob Sherrill Sr:
“ Along with Uriah [whose particulars are included here because he married Polly Sullivan, Benjamin Nichol's second wife], this family included elder siblings Jacob, Samuel and Ruben; and younger siblings Abel, Ephraim, Mary and Patience”--according to researcher Jane Leavell.

Transcribed from “Jacob Sherrill, Son of Adam and Elizabeth and Some of Their Descendants” by William Andrew Sherrill, published 1983:
“Jacob Sherrill, Sr., came to what is now Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina at the age of 8 years. He moved to Tennessee about 1800. The following was furnished by Wanda Clark who is a direct descendant of Jacob Sherrill. JACOB SHERRILL was the seventh of the eight sons born to the pioneer, Adam Sherrill and his wife, Elizabeth. Based upon deed records found in Adam Sherrill's name along his migratory route to Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina, it appears that Jacob was probably born while the family was living in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Several family Bible records belonging to the descendants of his eight sons establish his birth date as August 21, 1739. Jacob appears to have married rather young, when he was about 17 or 18 years of age. His wife was Hulda(h) Wilson. They were probably married in Rowan, Catawba, Lincoln, or one of the adjacent counties, in North Carolina. Her parentage has not been determined. However, while others of his brothers also moved from North Carolina to Tennessee, Jacob appears to be the only one of the eight boys who moved to Wilson County. Whether the name Wilson has any significance in Hulda(h)'s family, and thus to their move there is not known. Rowan County, North Carolina records contain a deed dated August 5, 1769 from Jacob and his wife, Hulda(h), to a James Clark for 66 acres of land. This was part of a tract of 628 acres from the Earl of Granville to Jacob's father, Adam Sherrill, Sr., who received it by deed August 28, 1762. The family's life in North Carolina had been closely connected to that of the Earl of Granville. Gentleman John Perkins, an important figure in the history of Catawba County, North Carolina, was the son of Margaret Sherrill and Elisha Perkins, Sr. Gentleman John who came to North Carolina from Virginia, with Adam Sherrill when he, John, was 14 years of age, was a protégé of the Earl of Granville. Margaret Sherrill Perkins was a sister to Adam Sherrill, Jr. Since her granddaughter, Betsey Perk ins, married Jacob and Hulda(h)'s son, Jacob Sherrill, Jr., the marriage of these second cousins, ties Margaret's line back to her brother Adam's through Jacob and Hulda(h)'s. She, thus becomes again, a link in the line of her nephew, Jacob Sherrill. The exact date Jacob and Hulda (h) moved to Wilson County, Tennessee, is not known. Traditionally, all of their children moved with them, but Jacob Sherrill, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth "Betsey" Perkins. They appear to have remained behind because Betsey had inherited land from her father, Elisha Perkins, Jr., who was a son of Margaret Sherrill Perkins. It could be that Jacob and Hulda(h) moved shortly after they sold their land in 1769. However, either they moved sometime later than that, or Samuel Wilson Sherrill, their son, also remained behind for a time. His family records show that he moved to Wilson County about 1792. It appears most likely that Jacob and Hulda(h) Sherrill, and all of their children, except Jacob, Jr., moved to Tennessee around the 1792 date. Jacob and Hulda(h) had at least eleven children. Both of them lived to a ripe old age. Jacob died in Wilson County on January 11, 1813, about 8 months short of his 73rd birthday. The exact date of Hulda(h)'s death is unknown. Traditionally, she died at the age of 92 years. Her estimated birth date is about 1736/424 Jacob, in his own way, left his imprint on Wilson County, Tennessee. The name Sherrill is still known in the area, especially in and around Lebanon, Tennessee. Many of the traditions which he and Hulda(h) established, live on. Many of their descendants remained to scatter over the State of Tennessee. But, many of them brought the name of Sherrill to areas of Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma when those states were still a frontier. Those descendants for whom data has been collected will be covered in the pages on the descendants of Jacob and Hulda(h) Wilson Sherrill that follow. Wanda L. Sherrill-92 and Sherrill-398 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge these two--I created mine accidentally rather than just adding his family to yours. Thanks!
