Biography
Robert was the son of William Stockton Shields and his first wife, Margaret "Peggy" Wilson.
He married Elizabeth O. Davis (later Toothman) 30 March 1820 in Jennings County, Indiana.[1]
According to a FamilySearch profile, they were the parents of: William Washington Shields, 1821-1892; Elizabeth E Shields Merryman, 1821-1901; Emily Shields Holmes, 1822-1850; Elijah M Shields 1824-1908 and Jonathan Shields, 1826-1898.
