Little is known of Margaret Shields (nee Shields.) Vital and census records are not available at this time.
In his book, Shields Family History, John A. Shields, states "...Margaret, a daughter of Samuel Wilson, a pioneer of east Tennessee, prominent in the campaigns against the Indians and one of the leaders of Tipton's faction in the feud with John Sevier, which had been brought about by political differences, cumulating in the attempt on the part of Sevier to establish the Independent State of Frankland [sic]. This marriage was about 1790, and to this union were born nine children, viz.: Robert, Samuel, James, William, Nancy Agnes, Rhoda, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Janet." p. 38.
John Shields acknowledged in his essay, Only a Beginning, that some information in his work could be incorrect despite his exhaustive efforts. So it is not completely unexpected that there is no evidence that the Margaret Wilson who married William Shields was indeed the daughter of Samuel Wilson who fought with Tipton's faction or that her marriage to William Shields took place in 1790.
